Today, 31 May 2023, Lifebit and Flatiron Health are announcing a multi-year strategic partnership to support vital research and enable scientific discoveries to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Implementing Lifebit’s pioneering federated Trusted Research Environment technology will enable approved researchers to safely and securely access high-quality real-world data on cancer patients to enable breakthrough analysis globally.

Health data generated by hospitals, healthcare providers, research organisations and clinical trials hold the potential to advance research and innovation, improve patient care and accelerate drug development.
The sensitivity of these data requires the utmost security and privacy measures that demonstrate strict compliance with global data use regulations to ensure patient data protection, and build patient confidence and trust in the use of their data for research.
Lifebit’s federated Trusted Research Environment delivers this necessary security and is already in use with major initiatives including Genomics England, the Danish National Genome Center and NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre. It brings the analysis to where the data resides and enables researchers and clinicians to securely analyse data in situ, and connect disparate datasets without the data being moved or copied. The strict access controls set on the platform will ensure the data are not shared or accessed without approval nor used for any purpose other than approved research.
This new partnership with Lifebit will enable Flatiron and its partners to continue to support trustworthy and secure access to data, deliver research and innovation to develop new treatments for cancer, and improve patient care and outcomes.
